      What are Riders?

       

       

      A lot of unforeseen health emergencies in life can lead to unexpected and excessive medical expenses. Moreover, when you buy life insurance, you aim to offer your family the most suitable financial protection. Life insurance riders^ can help you enhance your life insurance policy and add another layer of protection for you and your family.


      In simple terms, riders are an additional cover over and above your base life insurance policy. These riders can be added to the policy at the time of purchase and offer predetermined coverage against specific risks.  For instance, a critical illness rider will cover a list of critical illnesses at certain stages and pay a percentage of the sum assured if you are diagnosed with any of the critical illnesses covered under the plan.         The Tata AIA Non-Linked Comprehensive Protection Rider is an optional rider solution that helps you plan your unforeseen medical emergencies and also offers tax benefits on the rider premiums as per applicable income tax laws. When added to your base life insurance policy for an additional but nominal premium, you can cover yourself and your family against a range of risks such as Death, Accidental Disability, Critical Illnesses, and Terminal Illnesses. Riders can be attached with multiple products such as Tata AIA Sampoorna Raksha Promise - Non-Linked, Non-Participating, pure risk, Individual Life Insurance Product (UIN:110N176V01 or later) and Tata AIA Maha Raksha Supreme Select - Non-Linked, Non-Participating, Pure Risk, Individual Life Insurance Product (UIN: 110N171V03)

      Benefits of the Tata AIA Comprehensive Protection Rider

      • 01

        Term Benefit with Accelerated Terminal Illness (T&TI)

        Under this benefit option, the insured amount, as specified, will be paid out either on the diagnosis of a terminal illness or on death whichever occurs first.
      • 02

        Accidental Death Benefit (ADB)

        The insured amount under this option will be payable to the nominee in case the life assured dies due to an accident. The benefit can be doubled under specific instances of accidental death.
      • 03

        Accidental Total and Permanent Disability (ATPD)

        The benefit is payable if the life assured suffers a total and permanent disability due to an accident, and the disability occurs within 180 days from the accidental event during the benefit option term.
      • 04

        CritiCare Plus Benefit

        The insured amount is payable if the life assured is diagnosed with any of the covered illnesses or are receiving treatment for any covered procedure, subject to your survival for 30 days after the first diagnosis.
      • 05

        CritiCare Benefit

        The insured amount under this benefit option will be paid out as an accelerated benefit on the first diagnosis of the covered illness or during the treatment of the covered procedures.

      What If No Eventuality Occurs till the End of the Term?


      Under this rider, you can choose to receive the return of the balance premium (ROP)* paid towards one or more selected benefit options, where applicable, that cannot be changed later on.


      The total premiums paid towards the selected benefit option are payable after any claim amount, and the loading for the modal premiums has been excluded, provided the benefit option has not been terminated.

      • What are the different types of riders in life insurance?

        Some of the common types of riders you can add to your life insurance policy are waiver of premium rider, a critical illness rider, accidental death benefit rider, total and permanent disability rider, and an income benefit rider.

      • Is it good to buy a rider with term insurance?

        Buying a rider with your term insurance plan can be suitable if you want to gain additional coverage on your term insurance sum assured. While the term plan sum assured can cover death, other unforeseen risks such as critical illnesses, accidental disability and others can be covered under the rider of your choice. By adding a rider to your term plan, you can pay a single premium for your base term plan and your rider benefits.

      • Is Rider insurance free?

        Riders are optional add ons that can be attached to your base life insurance policy for an additional but reasonable premium amount. However, the rider premium is combined with the base policy premium and will be paid as one premium. This removes the hassle of paying two separate premiums.
