The Chiranjeevi health insurance scheme, officially called the Mukhyamantri Chiranjeevi Swasthya Bima Yojana scheme, is a universal medical insurance scheme introduced by the Rajasthan state government to provide free emergency healthcare to its citizens. It was first launched on 1st May 2021 and has been in effect since.

The Chiranjeevi Health Scheme is a government-backed health insurance scheme launched by the Rajasthan state government specifically to help families and citizens earning and living below the poverty line.
Citizens are offered a sum insured of up to ₹25 lakhs for an annual premium of ₹850 – which is waived for families living and earning below the poverty line. Moreover, every family in Rajasthan can apply for free cashless claims on treatments of up to ₹5 lakhs in all network hospitals.

Chiranjeevi Medical Insurance Scheme: Key Features
- Anyone applying for this health insurance scheme must be a permanent resident of Rajasthan state.
- All beneficiaries under the Chiranjeevi health scheme – factory workers, contract workers, and small and marginal farmers, can have their insurance premiums paid by the state government. In other words, they can claim this scheme’s insurance benefits for free.
- Apart from the stated beneficiaries, all other families and state citizens must pay the ₹850 annual premium.
- Insured women heads of families are offered smartphones with free internet connectivity for up to 3 years. This scheme also covers childbirth costs.
- Those insured under the Ayushman Bharat scheme can also register under the Chiranjeevi health scheme.
- Only some private hospitals are allied with the Chiranjeevi health scheme. Insured citizens must carefully check the list of network hospitals under the scheme if they want to get treated at a private hospital.
- There will only be a single line of grievance redressal. Anyone with a complaint can only express their issues in writing to the head of the institution to which their complaint pertains.
- For example, if you want to file a complaint about a specific private hospital where you got treated, your complaint must be addressed to the head of that specific private hospital.

- High Coverage and Low Premiums: Receive up to ₹25 lakhs in health insurance coverage, plus a ₹5 lakh accident cover for an annual Chiranjeevi Yojana premium of ₹850.
- Pre and Post-Hospitalisation Coverage: This scheme covers medical costs 5 days before hospitalisation and 15 days after discharge.

How to Apply For Chiranjeevi Medical Insurance Online?
- You must visit the Chiranjeevi Portal or E-Mitra site. You will need an SSO ID and your Jan Aadhaar number. If you do not have either, you must register for them before proceeding.
- After registering for your SSO ID and Jan Aadhaar, log in using your credentials on the SSO portal.
If you already have these credentials, click on Online Registration on the Chiranjeevi portal homepage, then click Redirect to SSO. - You will see two options: Free or Paid (for those below and above the poverty line, respectively). Choose the option that applies to you.
- After choosing your category, complete the application form by providing your Jan Aadhaar/Jan Aadhaar registration receipt number and other necessary details and click Submit.
- You will receive an OTP on the mobile number registered to your Jan Aadhaar that you must enter onto the website.
- Next, you must pay the ₹850 premium amount and an application fee of ₹30 if you fall under the paid category, after which you can download your policy document. For a hard copy of the policy document, you must pay an additional ₹73 for doorstep delivery.
- You do not need to pay any fees if you fall under the free category. You can download and print out your policy document immediately after submitting the application form and entering your OTP.
