The body mass index (BMI) is a method or measure to find out if your body weight is healthy by using your weight and height. The calculation for the body mass index divides your weight (kilograms) by your height (metre squared). Hence, a BMI of 30 would be 30kg/m2. The BMI considers your body shape and other natural variations in the physique to determine a healthy weight range for your height.

How to Calculate BMI Using BMI Formula?

Calculating your BMI is a simple process that you can carry out manually or with the help of a BMI calculator online. A BMI calculator can make this process much more convenient, and you can easily locate the calculator on the Tata AIA official website. When calculating your BMI using the calculator, here is what you should do:
 

  • Step 1: Check your weight on a weighing scale and make a note of the kilogram value to the nearest digit.
  • Step 2: Measure your height in feet and inches and this value in the BMI calculator online. Select your gender and hit 'Calculate BMI'.
  • Step 3: The calculator will immediately show you the BMI as per the information you have entered. Based on the value that the calculator displays, you will either be in the normal weight range or overweight or underweight.

 

A value between 18.5 and 25 kg/m is considered a normal BMI, while a value below 15 is severely underweight. If your BMI falls between 15 and 18, you will still be underweight; while reading in the range of 25 to 30, you will be classified as overweight.
 

If your BMI is between 30 and 40 and above 40, you come under the obese and severely obese categories, respectively.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is the ratio of your body fat or mass that is directly related to your height and weight. To arrive at this ratio, one can use the imperial BMI formula or the standard metric. In India, Body mass index calculators in India follow the metric system. The BMI ranges are for men are:
