Savasana pose literarily means a dead body’s posture. Basically, it’s a yoga position for rest and relaxation. Let us look at the benefits of this amazing yoga pose

Shavasana posture appears easy. But it is counted among the most difficult yoga poses. You are required to relax your mind and body completely in the Savasana pose. Letting your mind and body relax completely isn’t as easy as it seems. It is generally practiced at the end of an exercise or yoga session.

The word Savasana is made from two words: sava, meaning corpse, and asana, meaning pose. It features a unique blend of relaxation and Yoga Nidra meditation. The pose makes you more aware of yourself and your surroundings. Plus, it will energise you for the day’s activities. You will have to lie down on the ground to practice this pose. Keep your face up. Shavasana Steps – Detailed Guide on Performing Shavasana  

Here is the detailed savasana procedure. 
 

Step 1 - Lie down comfortably on the floor. Make sure to keep your back straight and there should be no disturbance. You should be comfortable when practicing the pose. Avoid using any cushions or pillows. Your face should be parallel aligned with the ceiling. 
 

Step 2 – Keep your eyes closed and legs apart from each other. Relax your legs completely. Your toes should face sidewards. And place your arms slightly apart from the body. Face upward towards the ceiling, keeping palms open. 
 

Step 3 - Now, draw attention to all the parts of your body slowly. Take slow and deep breaths during this process. Take your body into a deep relaxation state. After positioning your body in a relaxed state, draw focus on your breath. 
 

Step 4 – Take slow and deep breaths. It will take you into a deep state of relaxation. This exercise will energise your body. When you breathe out, you will attain a state of calmness. During the session, focus only on your body and forget every other task. Surrender and let go of your worries. Let your exhalation and inhalation happen as naturally as possible. Your body will feel refreshed and relaxed in 10 - 15 minutes.
 

Step 5 – Next, roll to one of the sides. Stay in that position for at least 10 minutes. Keep your eyes closed during the savasana procedure. Alternatively, you may go for Sukhasana. Now, take deep breaths and focus your mind on your surroundings. Finally, roll up slowly and seat yourself comfortably.

Tips to Practice Savasana Pose

If you follow the shavasana steps correctly, you can easily do the pose. But at the same time, it’s a little tricky. Keep the following tips in mind when practising this yoga pose. 
 

Make sure you have complete knowledge of Savasana before you start practising it. You may get help from an expert trainer. It will help you gain the maximum benefits of yoga and Savasana. Practice the exercise in a clean and well-ventilated space. Plus, there shouldn’t be any distractions.

If you feel any discomfort, you may use a pillow to bring your head to the level of your neck. It will save you from discomfort and soften your neck’s back. Use a folded blanket to support your head. It will help in ensuring that you gain maximum Savasana yoga benefits.
 

If your hamstrings or lower back muscles are tight, raise your legs. This way, it will be easy for you to practice the corpse pose. This small modification will give you maximum Savasana benefits. It is an ideal solution if you have discomfort and pain in your hips and lower back.
